Pakistan soil is very lucky to have a very conductive climate condition to grow fruits of different tastes, colour and nature. Kinnow is a member of citrus family. It is a hybrid of two citrus cultivars. King and Willow Leaf and is classified as kinnow mandarin. Citrus fruits have special importance due to their distinct flavoured and therapeutic values. These are rich in Vitamin C with fair amounts of Vitamin A and B. Besides this, they are rich source of minerals (Calcium, Phosphorus and Iron).

Pakistan as a nation produces about 12% and stands among the top ten citrus growing countries in the World . According to an estimate approx, 95% of the total Kinnow produced all over the world is grown in Pakistan.

Nutritional Composition and Health Benefits

Kinnow mandarin is good source of Folic acid, β-carotene etc. Folic acid is recommended before and early pregnancy for healthy babies (avoiding neural tube defects). While β-carotene is important in immune response and also acts as antioxidant.

Consumption of Kinnow fruits can provide sufficient quantities of pectin in diet as juice sac walls and capillary membranes are effective source of pectin.

Pectin affects several metabolic and digestive processes most important of them are its affect on glucose absorption and maintaining cholesterol levels. Dietary fibre also reduces the chances of colon cancer by absorbing carcinogen in gastrointestinal tract.

Harvesting and Processing

Handpicked Mandarins (Kinnows) are pre-sorted at the farm and transported to processing plant where these are carefully placed on a sorting conveyor by skilled workers. Clean, drinking water is sprayed to remove field dirt. The water is regularly checked and tested at the laboratory to ensure purity and cleanliness. lt is important to dry Mandarins (Kinnows) after washing, before they are coated with wax.

Imported Thaibendozole and Imazalil are used for Fungicide and wax to comply with international standards of HACCP. Once wax is applied, the drying process begins under controlled temperature to ensure complete and effective drying of the fruits.

Mandarins (kinnows) after waxing and drying further sorted and then graded for the packing. While packing it is ensued that best the best Mandarin (Kinnow) is packed in box.

Packed Mandarins (kinnows) are kept at +4 degrees centigrade temperature in cold store. After maintaining Mandarins (Kinnows) temperature we load them in a Reefer Container and dispatch them to customers requested ports.
